Hello from Wanborough!

On 30th September, we celebrated the European Day of Languages by holding our World Beat singing competition. Each class learnt a song in a different language. Magpie Class sang 'el 7 de julio, San Fermin'. It was very good! The winning class was Eagle Class with the Beatles song, She Loves You, in German (Sie Liebt Dich).

The day was a huge success and we definitely want to do it again next year.

¡Hola de Wanborough Primary School!

Ya han empezado las clases de nuevo. Volvimos el 2 de septiembre después de cinco semanas de vacaciones. La mayoría de nosotros lo hemos pasado bien a pesar del mal tiempo (¡llovió mucho!).

En julio decimos adiós a nuestro jefe, el Señor Davis. Tenemos una nueva jefa, la Señora Zimmerman (se lo ve en la segunda foto), También hay dos nuevas profesoras, Señorita Brant y Señorita Caird.

En primavera damos la bienvenida a nuestras tres gallinas, Charlie. Henrietta y Edwina. Ahora tenemos huevos frescos todos los días, normalmente tres por día.

Sábado, el 26 de septiembre es el día europeo de idiomas. Lo vamos a celebrar el día 30 con un concurso de canciones. Cada clase tendrá que practicar una canción en otro idioma (francés, italiano, alemán, español, etc.). Por la tarde habrá un concurso entre todas las clases a ver quien canta y baila lo mejor. ¿Tenéis planes para celebrar este día? Os mandaremos fotos de nuestro día cuanto antes.
Os deseamos un trimestre feliz a todos.

El pasado 18 de Junio, celebramos en el colegio San Sebastián de Palma del Río " El día inglés", para este día todos los alumnos-as han ido preparando distintos trabajos sobre la cultura y costumbres inglesas.Posteriormente fueron expuestos en el comedor del colegio, para poder ser visitados por toda la comunidad educativa. Durante la visita a la exposición, los alumnos-as de 4º bilingüe deleitaron a todos los asistentes con una magnífica actuación en inglés.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the super photos. You appear to have enjoyed yourselves on English Day.

Lis Bowie our Spanish teacher had a baby boy called Joshua. He is adorable and mum,dad and baby are very happy.

Here are some photos to show you what we have been doing at Wanborough School recently.

Year 6 have finished their SATS (exams) so to celebrate they went to a theme park called Thorpe Park. Everyone had great fun on the rides.

Year 5 are learning about Queen Victoria and The Victorians. On the 11th of May they dressed up as Victorian children and their lessons were like a Victorian School. The teacher was very strict.

In April Year 4 spent 3 days at Hooke Court, Dorset, 150km south of Wanborough. The children loved playing in the forest and building shelters.They also made rockets which flew high into the sky. Sleeping in dormitories with their friends was also fun.

We had a scarecrow trail around Wanborough, a very small version of "Las Fallas". The villagers made 53 scarecrows about fairy tales and fables. At school each class made one. Do you like them?

Wanborough School now has a radio station which was started by Mark Woodman and children from Years 5 and 6. At lunchtime the children on the radio talk, tell jokes and play music which can be heard by everyone around the school and outside on the playground. We are very pleased to have the radio.

Last thursday, 26th of February, we celebrated "The Andalusia Day". For this day we did activities like a typical Andalusia Beakfast, dancing and music, poetry and we organised a basketball match between teachers (only girls) and our school's female basketball team.

This 31st of october we celebrated Halloween in our school. We did a lot of activities. We dressed up as witches, vampires, ghosts and so on. Look!

At the end, Laurel, one of our American Auxiliaries of English Language told us about Halloween in the United States.

On Friday, we celebrated the European Day of Languages. We held a singing competition. We sang songs from Spain, France, Canada, Portugal, Italy, Germany and Sweden. We really enjoyed ourselves. ¡Hola a todos! Volvimos al colegio el 4 de septiembre después de seis semanas de vacaciones. El verano ha sido fatal en Inglaterra con tanta lluvia.

Pero estamos todos muy felices en nuestras nuevas clases. Aquí hay una foto de la clase ‘Chaffinch’ (¿pinzón?) jugando con el paracaídas; es muy divertido.

Hello everyone! We went back to school on 4th September after six week of holidays. The summer has been awful in England with so much rain.

But we are all happy in our new classes. Here is a photo of Chaffinch Class playing with the parachute; it’s great fun.

Wanborough Summer Fete

Our annual summer fete was this Saturday. It was great fun! There were lots of stalls and events, including pony rides, races, craft activities and a barbecue. You could even pay 50 pence to throw wet sponges at the headmaster and the teachers! Fortunately it didn't rain on us! Here are some photos.

Last Friday, the 6th of June, we celebrated our English Day. We work British monuments, we organized a “Pancake Competition”, we wear typical British hats, British soldiers at Buckingham Palace and we simulated the Buckingham Palace Guard Change.

Also, the oldest courses read the tale “Robin Hood” and they work the comprehension, the youngest watched “Robin Hood”, the famous Disney film.

Spanish Day at Wanborough

We have been enjoying our Spanish Day at Wanborough Primary School. Most children came to school dressed in red and yellow. We have been learning about Spanish food, music and art. Also, many of the classes have been trying to learn flamenco dancing. Here are some pictures, we will have more soon.

Hoy hemos celebrado el " English day " en nuestra escuela; quedamos en hacerlo los tres colegios Wroughton, Palma del Río y Puente Genil el mismo día, 6 de Junio. Nosotros nos hemos adelantado unos días porque nuestras auxiliares Anna y Jytte se marchan a su país el 30 de Mayo y también porque en este día nos podría visitar John Mark, el auxiliar inglés que tuvimos el año pasado.

Las actividades que hemos realizado son las siguientes:

1º.- Los alumnos de la clase de 3º bilingüe han hecho un desfile de modelos.

2º.-Los alumnos de 5º de Primaria han realizado carteles sobre diferentes aspectos de la cultura inglesa: comida, cosas típicas, el tiempo, monumentos........

También se ha trabajado el desayuno típico inglés con fichas y pequeños diálogos entre auxiliares y alumnos.

3º.- Los alumnos de 6º de Primaria han preparado una conversación telefónica que la han representado en el patio del Colegio con ayuda de las auxiliares y una cabina telefónica que hemos confeccionado.

El grupo de trabajo de nuestro Colegio ha elaborado recursos materiales para utilizarlos en las clases bilingües de conocimiento de 4º de primaria, podrán ser utilizados también en otros niveles. Cada recurso corresponde a una unidad didáctica. Además de los participantes del grupo

Scarecrow Walk

This week most of the children have been on the Scarecrow Walk around the village. Every year, groups and families make scarecrows to a theme. This year the theme was 'television'. El pasado 16 de abril, los alumnos de 6º de nuestro colegio acudieron al programa de televisión de canal sur (la banda) para grabar un programa infantil. Uno de los juegos que realizaron trataba de vocabulario inglés, la emisión de este programa se realizará la primera semana de junio.

Snow in Wanborough

On Sunday April 6th we woke up to snow in Wanborough. The snow fell early in the morning and had melted by the afternoon, but it was very pretty for a while. You can see a picture here.

We are on school holiday for 2 weeks, so there is no chance that the school will have to close.

Hola Manolo and Raphael,

Time has passed very quickly since our wonderful visit to your school and local area.

I enjoyed it so much that I have told my wife, Deanne, that we should retire to Andalusia.

We are back at school today after our short Easter break., but will have a two week holiday starting on Saturday 5th April at the end of this Spring Term.

I hope you enjoyed 'Semana Santa', I would love to be in Spain one year at Easter to see and hear it for myself, it seemed such a marvellous spectacle.

Manchester City are still fighting for a European spot next year and currently lie in ninth position. I see that Real Betis had some problems recently and that Real Madrid lost at the weekend. Never mind though Raphael, it looks like they will still top the league.

I will 'blogg' again soon.

Today we did the Easter Service up at the church. It was fun! We sang traditional hymns and there was a reading too. We also said two prayers. Do you celebrate Easter? How do you celebrate it? We receive chocolate Easter eggs. Yummy!

Easter Service at St Andrew Church
On Wednesday, 19th March, all the teachers, parents and children of Wanborough went to St Andrews Church in Wanborough. They sang hymns and Mr Cardwell, the vicar, led the service. Eight people from year 5 went up and read the story of Easter. At the end we all said the Lord’s Prayer. Then we walked back in groups ready for playtime.

We are having a great time here. My class have been learning about El Carnaval. We made masks that were really decorative. We are also making dance routines to go with them. Soon we will be doing our dance routines around the hall wearing our masks. What fun things are you doing?

Wroughton Juniors say hello!

Today I went to Wroughton Junior School. We looked at the photos of our recent trip to Spain, which they found very interesting. They really liked to see the photos of the children. They were surprised that you don't have to wear a school uniform. Look at the photo of Mrs Hodges's class (year 3). The children are all wearing school uniform. They were also surprised that you have lizards. It is too cold in England for lizards.

Here is a photo of Miss Smith's class (year 3) looking at their display of the menacing monster. They had been learning about similes in their literacy lesson.

Wroughton School will soon join our blog page after they have resolved a problem with the filter. I know they are very keen to find out more about Spain through the blog.

Children from different classes have looked at the Spanish-English blog today. I think they are very impressed!

We can’t open the U-Tube video clip of the Easter week procession as we have a filter at school. That's not a problem though as the children can have a look from their computers at home.

Emma in Magpie Class has a question for the children. How do children celebrate birthdays in Spain? The children here often have a party with games and party food. They usually have a birthday cake with candles.

We were hoping that you might send one or two messages in simple Spanish so that the children can try to work out what it means. Would that be ok?

Today we are having fun at Wanborough Primary School. It is our Easter Egg Trail. The children have to follow a trail of clues and questions around the school. At the end, there is a big chocolate Easter egg for each child.
